TB5 alloy is a metastable β-type titanium alloy with a nominal composition of Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al, containing isomorphous β-stabilizing element V, eutectoid β-stabilizing element Cr, neutral elements Sn and α-stabilizing Element Al. The alloy has excellent cold rolling and cold forming properties. The cold rolling deformation can reach more than 90%. It can form moderately complex sheet metal parts at room temperature. The alloy can also reach a strength of more than 1240MPa through aging treatment, and has excellent welding performance and corrosion resistance. Since Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al contains 15% V, its oxidation resistance is worse than that of Ti-6Al-4V (Ti Gr5).
9. Corrosion resistance
Like most titanium alloys, Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al has excellent resistance to general corrosion when exposed to common environmental conditions. Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al does not require special surface treatment when used in aircraft structures. However, due to the reason of hydrogenation, when Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al works under the environmental conditions that may generate a large amount of hydrogen, surface modification treatment must be carried out to prevent hydrogenation. The contact corrosion behavior of Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al with structural steel and aluminum alloy is the same as that of Ti-6Al-4V (Ti Gr5).

The transformation temperature of α+β↔β phase is 750~770℃

Microstructure

After solution treatment in the β phase region, the alloy is a single β phase after air cooling or water quenching, and the microstructure after slow cooling is a small amount of α phase distributed on the β phase matrix. The structure of solid solution aging treatment (480~675°C) is composed of β phase and α phase.

Heat treatment system

Solution treatment

Select the solution treatment temperature in the range of 760~815℃ or 790~815℃. The usual solution treatment system is 800℃±15℃, 3~30min, air cooling or faster cooling.

Prescription

The aging temperature is 480~675℃, and the aging time is 2~24h. According to the strength level, three aging systems are usually adopted, and the temperature fluctuation range is ±6℃.

Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al Titanium Alloy is mainly used to manufacture high-strength sheet metal parts in aircraft structures and rivets for cold riveting. It has been used to manufacture aircraft drag parachute beams (1080MPa strength level) and supporting rivets. In the satellite structure, it has been used to manufacture apogee engine supports and support cones. In civilian use, it is used to make the striking surface of golf heads.
